When it comes to choosing good horse names you might think it is a piece of cake, but it is isn’t.
The reality is that we ponder and ponder because we want the perfect name for the new addition to your horse family.
Be it your mare’s new foal or maybe a young filly, you want to make sure it feels right when you call the horse's name from across the pasture.
Well, If you're having problems choosing a name then you’ll love this inforgraphic we have created here at HorseClicks.
We have used over 14,000 horse for sale adverts that were placed on our site over the past year and created a comprehensive list of the most popular names.
Obviously every horse is different and you may find the most popular horse names aren't the best names for your horse, but you’re certain to find some inspiration in this list.
Even if you aren't looking for a name for your own horse, it's fun to see what names some people call their horses. You will be surprised at some of them.
Guess it’s true
Phew, that's a lot of names. It looks like Bella is the favorite name, especially for Mares. The top name for Geldings is Tucker. It's interesting to see Alex and Alexia popping up in a few places as well, being a popular name for both genders.
But we haven't stopped there.
To look at the results in even more depth we broke the names down into specific breeds. We picked the top breeds on our site and gathered the top 10 names for each one:
Ladybug, Cisco, Lacey, Sugar, Cash, Fancy, Blue, Buddy, Raven, Spirit
Gypsy, Jack, Spirit, Lilly, Rebel, Black Jack, Jasper, Sadie, Toby, Harley
Alexia, Prince, Annie, Levi, Trooper, Izzy, Diva, Lilly, Ransom, Treasure
Alexia, Twister, Luna, Apple, Sheba, Blue, Cheyenne, Star, Apache, Gabby, Stormy
Dakota, Bella, Lady, Tucker, Sierra, Scout, Lucky, Jewel, Snickers, Belle

If these names don't do it for you, why not get a bit more creative and try merging two names together?
You can come up with some very interesting names.
How about Shadow Flash. Lucky Treasure. Sapphire Peanut? Okay, that last one might not be the best example, but we're sure you could come up with some better combinations!
There were a few names that we loved which didn't make it into the most popular list. Here are some of our favorites:
You have no excuse now for not being able to come up with good horse names.
But before you choose one try it out a couple times.
Ask yourself does it sound funny when you throw the name in with other words? You want to make sure that it rolls off the tongue real nice. Short names often make better stable names, because they are easier for everyday use. With show names you can have a lot more fun. These horse names will need to stand out when you are competing.
You might want to choose a name that reflect the horses heritage. For example, choosing a name with Asian roots - like “Levi” - for your Arabian is a wonderful way to honor the origins of your horse’s breed.
If you are registering your horse name then make sure that you find out the registries rules first. Some do not allow duplicate names, and also some breeds need to use the sire’s and dam’s names. The best thing to do is compile a list of your favorites names and work with the registry to pick the perfect one.
