Wisp is a 17-year-old, approximately 14.2-hand grade Paso Fino mare with a wonderfully smooth gait and the quiet, dependable nature so many riders are looking for.

A horse being 17 does not automatically mean her riding years are almost over.

Healthy, sound horses can continue being ridden throughout their 20s, and some remain active and rideable into their 30s, depending on their individual health, soundness, care, and workload.

I know this from personal experience.

I had a mare that I was still running PRCA barrels on at 26 years old. After I retired her from barrel racing, my mother continued riding her on trail rides. We bred her at 27, she foaled at 28, and that wonderful mare lived until she was 42 years old.

She taught me something I have never forgotten:
