Off the Track Thoroughbred for FREE Lease for sale in Ohio

Putting super casual feelers out for a lessee for Maverick (Cleverly Wicked). Looking for a half lease and an experienced rider. He has been on a break for a while so he definitely needs a tune-up, but he is sane and safe. He can be dumb sometimes, but not in a "I'm going to be the last thing you see" kind of way.

He is boarded in Louisville and will continue to be boarded in Louisville. I will pay all of his bills for someone who wants to come in and ride a green horse. I also have super basic western tack you can use. You are also welcome to use your own. He has health insurance as well.

Discipline doesn't matter, but no jumping unless you bring in an outside trainer to evaluate him and coach you on it. He would look amazing in Hunter/Jumper or Dressage, but I ride exclusively western. If you wanted to show eventually, we could definitely discuss. I am not planning on him going anywhere until the EHV issues in Northeast Ohio are more under wraps.

He is getting his teeth done in May and will be getting vaccines soon as well. He is on a 6-week regimen with his farrier and is currently barefoot. We can discuss having him shod if he gets back under saddle more frequently and starts getting sore. If we ended up shoeing him, I would need some help financially to have it done as he needs to be sedated each time. On the track they never gave him a chance to learn how to stand for it and they just knocked him out. He had a terrible time on the track with a terrible trainer. There is a video circulating of his trainer beating him in the face with a crop so a gentle soul is needed here.

He is a 6 year old off the track thoroughbred. He came off the track in October of 2022 and immediately went to someone for training on pole bending. He came back to his original owner with a 3/9 on the body condition score. He spent some time with his original owner before he came to me in May.

He is now at a really good place that cares for him very very well and I feel he is ready to get back to work. It is a ways away in Louisville so I am planning to move him closer eventually, but no fixed date on that now.
