PL Standing Hancock, “Custom”, is a stunningly unique 13 year old, registered Appaloosa gelding standing at 15.1h. Yes, he is, in fact, an incredibly unique dappled palomino Appaloosa! We say he is one-of-a-kind in both looks and personality, making him truly “Custom”!
If you are looking for a partner to help you fine tune your skills and give you some confidence in the ring or on the trail, Custom would be an unmatched companion. In the arena, Custom has a great walk, trot, lope with smooth and easy transitions. He is very well broke through his sides and has a true one hand neck rein. Custom will side pass, pivot, and give simple changes. He does have a flying change, but we are working on making it more consistent. When asked, he will come down over the vertical and travel long and low. We have shown him at local ranch shows, where he has done great. He has done various ranch riding pattern classes, rail classes, open sorting, working cow horse, and cattle boxing. I have also played with him under English tack and started him over cross rails and smaller combinations. While he is kind and forgiving enough for less experienced riders, we feel a rider who has an independent seat and can successfully walk, trot and lope would get the most out of him competitively.
Our 14 year old advanced beginner working student regularly and successfully handles and cares for him on her own. Every night she hops on him bareback in a halter and lead rope then rides him out to his turnout field for the evening. Often I catch her riding him tackless through the open grass fields without a care in the world!
Out on the trail he keeps a good pace and doesn’t have issues crossing any obstacles. He does prefer to lead but, if need be, he will follow without fuss. We don’t feel the need to micromanage him on the trail as he is very sure footed. He is confident off property, and we haven’t had any issues with him being very looky or spooky.
Custom has the best personality and is very, very in your pocket. He is kind and gentle to be around and has great ground manners. He walks on eggshells around kids and is regularly dragged around the indoor by a little 6 year old girl who dotes on him constantly. Custom currently stalls during the day and turns out in a group of geldings at night. He has been turned out with a mixed herd previously with zero issues. He falls in the middle of the herd and gets along well with others. He is currently shod all the way around but this is not required. He has zero vices on the ground or under saddle.
Custom has zero history of injury or significant health issues.
Custom has a current PPE on file which includes flexions of the upper and lower joints of the front and hind limbs. Radiographs can be arranged at the expense of the prospective buyer.
Custom has become a much-loved member of our farm and it’s of the utmost importance that he finds a great home with a loving owner who he can take to new heights!
