17HH Retired Rescue Mare for light riding or a companion for sale in Virginia

Sadie is a rescue mare whom I adopted in 2007. She appeared to have had a rough start; she had never been in a barn, never been handled from the offside, never had a bath or been clipped, and had no idea what treats were (took her a year to eat apple wafers or carrots). She has been on my farm since then. Within a year, she turned into a huge sweetheart. She is great for baths, grooming, tacking, blanketing and the farrier (known to fall asleep during a trim). While she has adjusted to being in a stall, she can still be nervous when she first comes in and will walk circles while she eats until she settles. She is NOT food or treat motivated but will follow you around like a puppy dog including the step up into the tack room. She has always required lounging for ~10 minutes prior to riding to get the bucks out whether she is ridden every day or once a month. She would be a great pet, companion horse or easy trail horse; I taught inexperienced riders lessons on her from - Phone number removed -

Her feet are trimmed every 6 weeks, she is sound for walk/trot and trail rides, and her annual shots & dental were complete in August 2023. She is VERY attached to a gelding she has lived with since coming to me (Rascal); I am hoping to find a forever home they can go to together.

Due to a death in the family, I am selling my farm and moving out of state January 2024, or she would live here forever. I will be VERY particular regarding where she goes from here. I am asking for a nominal amount for her to try to avoid anyone looking for a free horse to throw in the back yard and occasionally pay attention to and to ensure she is not going to someone who will haul her to an auction 6 months later.
