Located in Kamloops, BC. Gentle giant 17.1hh, 16 year old Percheron-cross gelding. Eli is a black bay with a gorgeous wavy mane and amber eyes (he also has some unique roan patches on his right hip area).

He has been my main horse for seven years and is a wonderful, multi-talented partner who is ready to make someone else's dreams come true, as he did for me. He has done dressage, show jumping / cross country jumping (schooled and competed to 3’ / 1m), and has been ridden hundreds of miles on the trail in all terrain, from mountains to meadows to roads. Good with traffic, wildlife, and dogs.

In the arena, he is suitable for amateurs and would make a lovely horse to learn on, as he is responsive but forgiving. His walk is relaxed but forward, his trot is easy to sit and steady, but can be ground-covering if asked, and his canter is very smooth and rhythmic. He is a brave and athletic jumper with perfect square knees, and is totally point and shoot to the jumps, even if you ride like a sack of potatoes! An intermediate or experienced rider will be able to play with his arena buttons… he leg yields easily, does shoulder in, haunches out, and has butter-soft walk-canter departs. For day to day riding, he’s a medium forward ride and doesn’t need much leg, but when jumping, spurs or a crop are helpful to get some extra impulsion.

On the trail, he is reliable and not spooky (the worst he does is gives things the hairy eyeball, or the rare startle response). My husband and other beginners have ridden him and he’s been great. He is docile when trail riding at the walk and trot, but can occasionally be strong at the canter depending on the scenario. No rear or bolt, and the closest he’s come to a buck is an expressive canter transition. I ride him out alone frequently, and there is zero fuss leaving. I usually trail ride in a hackamore and he has been ridden western there, as well as our primary discipline of english.

As he is so tall, I have trained him to come up to whatever you stand on to get on, whether that be a mounting block, trailer hub, truck tailgate, or fence. Just say “pick up” and he’ll be at your service!

He has good feet and I’ve only shod him for a couple cycles here and there when riding on rocky ground, but for the last two years, I have only used Cavallo boots on his fronts (when trail riding on hard ground), which will be included.

Must go somewhere with room to move, as he is a big horse who is accustomed to at least a couple acres of pasture (currently on 20 acres year round, with free choice netted hay in the winter). As long as he has space, he is the same horse from week to week or month to month, but if he is confined, he can understandably be a little energetic. When he’s been stalled at a clinic or show, he’s sometimes spirited to start, but settles quickly.

He has lived in a big mixed herd, as well as with just one or two other horses, and been both top dog and bottom dog. No maintenance, and only gets a mineral supplement and biotin for grain.
