16.3 Hand Thoroughbred Gelding for sale in Virginia

Rascal is a 16.3, 18-year-old, chestnut, thoroughbred gelding; I rescued his mom in the Fall of 2004. He was born and raised on my farm. He is one of the easiest horses I have ever started under saddle (on day 1 he started in the ring; by day 2, I was riding him in open field). Rascal is a gorgeous mover with a big open shoulder and a huge floating trot well suited for dressage or any discipline. From - Click here to reveal phone number - I was traveling nonstop for work, and I retired him at the end of 2018. He can be well behaved when he wants to be, but he has a lot of spunk & personality. He can be aggressive, pinning his ears, baring his teeth, pushy with his body, and try to sneak in a bite one day but be a bright eyed, ears up, treat loving sweetheart the next. THESE ARE THE REASONS HE NEEDS AN EXPERIENCED HORSE PERSON (not at all because of how he acted under saddle). I work 60-80 hours a week, and I think he just needs someone willing to focus all of their attention on him with lots of love and a clear job for him to perform. He is very intelligent, likes to work and learn new things. He is VERY food & treat motivated when it comes to teaching him new things, but he will turn sour if he is bored. He is sound with no current or previous injuries and a very easy keeper, but he will easily get fat with little feed (he looks pregnant on only 6 handfuls of grain a day and no work). This year his feet have been difficult to keep in good condition, but they held up great when he was in work and wearing shoes. He gets trimmed every 6 weeks, and his annual shots & dental were complete in August 2023. He is VERY attached to a rescue mare I adopted when he was ~3 (Sadie); I am hoping to find a forever home they can go to together, but I will consider separating them if I can rehome them at the same time.

Due to a death in the family, I am selling my farm and moving out of state January 2024, or he would live here forever. I am VERY particular regarding where he goes from here. I am asking for a nominal amount for him to try to avoid anyone looking for a free horse to throw in the back yard and occasionally pay attention to and to ensure he is not going to someone who will haul him to an auction 6 months later.
