If youโre looking for one that will turn heads everywhere he goes, Shorty is about as hard to overlook as they come. With his rich golden color, white mane and tail, and plenty of feather, he is handsome from every angle and nearly impossible to take a bad picture of. And WIDE is an understatement. Shorty is THICK, wears a size 4 shoe, and has enough substance to carry just about anyone or pull just about anything. Despite all that, he isnโt so tall that a smaller rider feels like they need a ladder to get on!
Shorty is broke to ride AND drive and has spent many hours working in harness. He drives both single and double and is more forward, making him enjoyable to drive and willing to get out and work. He has an excellent โwhoa,โ stands quietly when asked, and is happy to wait as long as you need. Heโs the kind that knows what a dayโs work is and doesnโt mind doing it. Under saddle, Shorty rides nicely both inside and outside of the arena. He collects up well, moves off your leg, sidepasses, has a cute turnaround, and is remarkably responsive, sensitive and athletic for a horse of his size. He has beautiful, expressive movement and really picks his feet up and steps out when he travels. One of our favorite things about him is just how SMOOTH he is. Shorty is extremely comfortable at the walk, trot, and lope, which is rare to find in a horse built like him! Outside, he is dependable and enjoyable. Shorty walks out great on the trail, will cross water, step over deadfall, navigate uneven country, and has no problem leaving the other horses and heading out alone. He has had a rope swung off of him, carried a flag, and takes new jobs in stride. He is also trained to pick you up at the fence or mounting block, which makes mounting a whole lot easier!
Shorty wants to please and has ZERO buck, bolt, rear, bite, strike, or kick. He can sit for an extended amount of time, saddle back up, and go right back to work. He has a good mind, is willing, and genuinely wants to get along. He is easy to catch, loads right into the trailer, hauls well, will stand tied all day, and does well whether kept in a pen or turned out in a herd setting. And if his already robust figure doesnโt give it awayโฆ Shorty LOVES his treats. He is truly one of those horses that is even more impressive in person than he is in pictures. Between his looks, size, smooth ride, driving experience, trail ability, and personality, there is a whole lot to love about this big golden guy.
Shorty can be watchy on the ground and appreciates a confident handler, but he is respectful, easy to handle, and it does not carry over under saddle. A confident youth should have no trouble getting along with him.
