This guy is made to pack some beer and carry your husband while he takes a nap on the trail.
He doesn’t care about much of anything on the trail, perfect nose to tail mount.
Rye’s biggest challenge is that he is buddy sour. The positive in this is that you never have to worry about the person riding him leaving the group LoL. He is brave and has no problem leading the way, hanging out in the middle or following behind but he does NOT want to be left. When hauling off property he is a little tense the first few minutes riding him until he accepts the fact that he gets to go and is not going to be left behind.
Rye has spent the majority of his life in Indiana. His previous owner being married to the military is what brought Rye to NC. Two young kids and work left his owner without the time he deserves.
Was told he did some low level eventing in his younger years. Although Rye will work in an arena, his happy place is on the trail. He will walk, trot, canter but has been known to throw a little buck going into the canter. Has no problems carrying large saddle bags. Rye has the type of motor that will keep up with more forward or slow horses, his normal trail ride length has been around 4hrs and he still has plenty of gas in the tank. Looking for someone who has the ability to keep him in check while getting to enjoy a solid trail mount. Rye needs someone that can be clear and firm with boundaries. His ground manners have gotten much better but he can be “pushy” and in your space if not given direction.
He stands tied, grooms, tacks up and bridles well. Has great feet and easy to trim. Loves a bath and good with fly spray. Easy to load and haul. Rye has a history of being food aggressive, but a simple correction has sorted that out in his current situation.
Rye has a large “knot” on the right side of his poll. He has had this for several years. Was scanned to find it was not associated with his spine, believed to be an isolated calcification that the veterinarian thinks developed from an impact. It does not seem to bother him. He flexes equally both directions, doesn’t mind it being messed with and the bridle sits in front of it.
This is not a kid’s horse or for a beginner/timid rider. Rye is very sweet and loves attention, but can be a spoiled brat if allowed.
Finding a forever home with a rider that fits his personality is my goal for Rye.
