Louise is a 14-year-old gaited spotted pony with a sweet personality, excellent manners, and a ton of potential. She is the kind of pony that makes you feel comfortable because very little seems to bother her. She is extremely unflappableâbirds flying up, dogs riding alongside, drones overhead, new surroundings, and trail riding situations have all been non-issues for her.
She has excellent ground manners and is easy to handle both on the ground and under saddle. She stands quietly to be groomed and tacked up, with or without cross-ties, and picks up her feet easily for the farrier. She has strong, healthy feet and does not require shoes. She trailers easily and is generally very easy to work with.
Under saddle, Louise direct reins and is responsive to a light cueâshe does not require kicking to get her moving. A simple kissy noise is usually all it takes. She has a very smooth gait and is a fun pony to ride. She does require a rider with some experience to help her find and maintain her gait, so I would describe her as appropriate for a confident/strong beginner with guidance, but not a completely green or first-time rider.
Louise is also a confident trail horse. She is happy to ride out on her own and does not need another horse to feel secure. When riding in a group, she is very much a âdonât leave me behind!â type of girl. She may want to gait up and catch the group if she falls behind, although she is perfectly comfortable riding ahead and has no problem being in front. She simply prefers to stay with her buddies.
The honest part â¤ď¸
Louise is strong-minded and has a definite opinion about being the boss. This is the primary reason she is looking for a new home. She and my mare have had some kicking/boss-mare issues. We have separated them and worked on reintroducing them, but Louise is not particularly interested in giving up her position in the pecking order.
Because I have young, beginner riders, I donât have the time or the consistent riding/training situation needed to help Louise work through that strong-minded side of her personality. I donât believe this is a reflection of her potentialâshe has a lot of itâbut she needs the right person who appreciates a confident horse and is willing to provide consistent leadership.
I would love to see Louise go to someone who will enjoy her for what she is: a fun, smooth, confident, incredibly sensible pony with excellent manners and a big personality. She has so many wonderful qualities, and I think with the right rider and consistent work, she could really shine.
I am being upfront about her quirks because finding the right home is much more important to me than making a quick sale. She is a special pony and deserves a home where her personality and abilities are a good match for her rider.
