Description

6-year-old NSSHA Gelding started at 2 years and has been ridden consistently. Never shown, always trail ridden. Will park out, let you get on, and stand still until you cue him to go. He may want to move, but a simple whoa will stop him. Will do the same when in a group. He may want to move when the group leaves, but will stay and not get super anxious. He will ride in the front, back, or middle. Several horse lengths between the group is ok with him. Stands 15.2-3 hands. Stands still for farrier, has always been shod, and was shod a few weeks ago. Current coggins. Loads and unloads perfectly in a slant-load trailer without a ramp. I used a ramp for a short time, and it was a little disturbing at 1st. Has a good gate, but is not really fast. He is not hot or big motored. I would say this horse is good for most beginners if they understand they are the boss, not the horse. He minds well. I use a studded cavesson nose band instead of a bit. I broke him with a rope halter, then switched to a cavesson and stayed with it since it worked well. He had an injury on his left rear leg in June of 2024. He has completely healed, but does have a scar. I rode him 250 miles during August of 2025 in South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming with no signs of soreness or limp. We rode long, hard rides the entire month. Does not require constant pushing to make him go, and does not require holding him back. When riding by himself, he will spook slightly, not run off, just a jump. No spook when in a group. I bought a mule and made the tough decision to sell him. Can provide my vet's phone number if you would like to speak to her.
