If you’re looking for a horse with a kind heart, gentle soul, and tons of personality, Gunner might be the perfect match. He’s truly a “once-in-a-lifetime” horse and has been my everything for the past several years.

Gunner is a 16-year-old Quarter Horse mix gelding who has done a little bit of everything and always gave me his full heart. He has an easy-going personality, gets along beautifully with other horses, and is extremely friendly and safe around kids. He loves attention, being brushed, and just hanging out with his people.

🏇 Riding & Experience:

Gunner is an all-around horse who’s done both English and Western riding.

Here’s a bit of what he’s done with me:

🏞️ Trail riding – confident and calm, even when riding out alone or in new places

🐎 English riding – basic flatwork and jumped up to 2’3” confidently

🎯 Gymkhana games – fun experience doing barrels, poles, and more (just for fun, not competitively)

🧡 Arena work – easygoing and responsive, great for pleasure or groundwork

🧒 Kid-friendly – he’s been ridden and handled by younger kids with supervision

He’s been the kind of horse I could hop on bareback with a halter and ride around the pasture with full trust.

🩺 About His Health:

Two years ago, Gunner was diagnosed with Navicular Syndrome, a degenerative condition that causes intermittent pain in the back of the hoof, specifically around the navicular bone and bursa.

Important things to know:

We were originally told he would never be rideable again.

With time, proper hoof care, and lots of rest, we’ve been able to ride him lightly on good days.

He is currently lame again and is on time off.

His condition can improve with the right care, but he will never be a full-time riding horse again.

We’ve managed his condition through:

Regular farrier work with careful trimming for heel support

Rest when he shows any signs of pain

Occasional use of anti-inflammatories or pain management during flare-ups (when cleared by vet)

🏡 What Kind of Home He Needs:

This has been an incredibly hard decision, but I know Gunner deserves someone who can love and care for him exactly as he is.

I’m looking for a home that will offer him:

A gentle, compassionate environment where he’s loved like family

A person who understands Navicular or is willing to learn and work with a vet/farrier

Pasture buddy or companion home (he’s great with other horses—submissive, gets along with mares and geldings)

Optionally, someone interested in liberty work, groundwork, or very light riding on his good days

A place where he won’t be pushed to perform or be ridden consistently

He would thrive in a home with lots of turnout, love, and maybe even a kid who wants to spoil him without big riding expectations.
