Gov — 12.2H Shetland × Half Draft Gelding
Gov currently stands 12.2 hands and still has room to grow! He has a great, solid foundation and was started slow, correctly, and with his mind in mind. He is an absolute pleasure to work with and has amazing ground - Click to reveal - will stand quietly tied without pawing, and stands well for saddling, farrier work, fly spray, and baths. Under saddle, he lopes nice, correct circles and picks up both leads. He has been exposed to all kinds of obstacles and distractions and handles them like a champ. He will cross water, walk through tarps and sagebrush, and has been desensitized to tires, tarps, grain bags with pop cans, and other things being dragged around him. He’ll even tolerate an exercise ball being bounced all around and on him!
He rides out nicely on the trails and is comfortable riding away from the other horses. He has also been exposed to cattle, chickens, turkeys, tractors, and other loud equipment, giving him a great start in the real world.
One of Gov’s best qualities is his mind. He learns quickly, tries hard, and truly wants to please. He has not shown a mean bone in his body and has honestly never given me a reason to say anything bad about him!
Because he is still young, I wouldn’t consider him a completely beginner-safe pony to simply turn a child loose on yet without supervision. However, a kid who knows the basics should get along wonderfully with him, and he would also be great for lead-line riding while they continue building their - Click to reveal - is the kind of pony a kid can grow and learn with for many years before they outgrow him. He has a fantastic foundation, a willing attitude, and the potential to become an incredible kids’ pony with continued riding and - Click to reveal - is truly a special little horse, and I think his next kid is going to absolutely love him
