BREEDING: Dawn has the perfect pedigree in the Missouri Foxtrotting horse industry. She is a granddaughter of the great Southern Sunrise. Her sire, Southern Sunrise’s Romeo, is no stranger. He was the 2009 Amateur World Grand Champion and an excellent trail horse and Missouri Foxtrotter ambassador. Southern Sunrise’s Romeo has sired Trail Horses in 20 States and the country of Israel. Her Dam is Babe’s Stormin Nellie H. She was shown and trail-ridden; we have video footage of her; she was used here on our farm as an extra mount for those who did not know how to ride. She was full of champions such as Stormin Norman, Warrior’s Gentleman Gem, and Zane Grey. Her Pedigree consists of 6 World Champions, 5 World Grand Champions, and 1 Reserve World Grand Champion. Dawn has the sought-after disposition that her Sire, Grandsire, and Dam have passed on. Her breeding alone makes her an excellent prospect of a future broodmare.
DISPOSITION & TEMPERAMENT: Dawn was raised here on our farm and has been handled since birth. She has been around our kids since she was a foal. She has been petted, brushed, and fed as part of a daily routine. She was halter-broken as a Weanling and started under saddle at 3 years old. She is calm, well-behaved, and enjoys being around people. Dawn will greet you at the gate from the pasture. She has always been in the pasture with other mares and geldings, and she gets along well with others in a herd. She will stand patiently tied with no pawing or anxiety.
GAIT: Dawn has a fantastic, smooth foxtrot, flat-footed walk, and running walk.
EXPERIENCE: Dawn has extensive trail experience. She has been ridden alone or in large groups, leading a pack, going in the middle, or back of a group. She has been ridden in some of the most rugged terrain in the Ozarks. She has been used this spring as a trail guide for our horse camp and has been ridden by riders ranging from Youth to Older, with intermediate experience.
Dawn stands still to be saddled, bridled, fly-sprayed, mounted, dismounted, for the farrier, and for a bath! She has been exposed to: traffic, tarps, barking dogs, trail obstacles, chainsaws, deer, armadillos, golf carts, four-wheelers, lawn mowers, and bicycles. She is easy to mount and will sidestep over any obstacle to pick up her rider.
TRAINING: Dawn was bred, started, and trained by Andrew Hendrix. I have been breeding, raising, training, and selling my own Foxtrotters for about 25 years.
SUITABILITY FOR RIDERS: Dawn has been ridden by everyone from 8 to 80. Dawn is easy to get along with, but I always recommend that anyone buying a horse come try them out to make sure they suit you!
