Hello everyone! We’re looking to thoughtfully rehome our beloved 10-year-old, full-papered Shire. He is all black with four matching white socks and has been with us since he was three, when we rescued him from an Amish farm. Because of that upbringing, he came to us with a strong base of training even at a young age.
He has a neurological condition called shivers, which affects both of his hind legs. Our vet has confirmed he is in no pain, and because the condition is neurological, he isn’t aware of the movements. That said, his back legs do best in warmer weather, which is why we are looking for a home in a warmer climate where he can be most comfortable long-term.
A few things to know about him:
• Rides, drives, pulls, logs, carts, rows – very versatile with consideration for his condition
• Easygoing, kind temperament
• Gets along beautifully with other horses
• Grew up alongside our daughter and has been part of our family
• Farrier work must be done using a stock for safety due to the shivers
• Not “fully finished,” but very well-mannered and capable
We previously had him listed at $30,000, but we are open now and willing to consider offers.
Please make an offer, keeping in mind that we will need to purchase another horse right away to keep our other draft company.
This is a very difficult decision for us—we truly love this horse—but we want what’s best for him and his long-term comfort.
If you’re interested or would like additional photos/videos, please feel free to message me.
We’re happy to do small communication over messaging, but we do prefer to schedule phone calls to weed out tire kickers and ensure serious inquiries.
