Since 2001, Rancho de los Cielos of Riverside, CA has bred, trained, competed and sold gaited horses and provided boarding, training, and lessons for horses of all breeds, genders, ages and uses and their riders.
Breeding: We maintain prize Mangalarga Marchador breeding stock, all of whom are under saddle and available for demonstration or sale at any time. We've always offered a "Designer Foal" option, arranging for the sale of unborn foals delivered as weanlings to young horses newly under saddle, bred per the Buyer's choice or ours, from mares and stallions listed among our champion imported breeding stock (including approved mares and stallions belonging to our collaborators in improving Mangalarga Marchador horses in the US). We started with Peruvian Pasos (first horse, 1998) but, by 2005, we were exlusively breeding Mangalarga Marchador horses, a larger, more athletic/versatile, gaited saddle horse from Brazil. We breed the horses that we ourselves want to ride: horses to carry us with the ease and smoothness of the wind over the broken hills and chaparral desert area we live in for the distances we ride and compete (25 mile endurance to multi-day endurance rides averaging 20-30 miles per day.) Our breeding goal is to reproduce in the US the archetype that Brazil created for the world: a mid-sized, lean, sculpted, athletically and elegantly designed horse, 4 beat smoothly gaited, with the temperament to carry the right rider through fire or carry a child patiently and safely day after day. Fewer than 300 Mangalarga Marchador horses are registered with the US registry, but there are over 400,000 in Brazil, where the Brazilian Dept of Agriculture ensures the quality of Brazil's National Horse by inspections of all breeding stock. Gait, conformation, and temperament are closely scrutinized in Mangalarga Marchadors there, in keeping with an over 200 year history of breeding horses to ride that vast countryside, to do it in style, and to make themselves useful in any way a horse can work: driving cattle, hunting deer (like fox hunters in Britain), gaiting the length and breadth of plantations the size of some US states, doing dressage, or traversing the whole country in expositions such as the 9000 mile trek lasting 13 mo that earned the Guiness World Record in distance riding. Over 50 of the 300 US registered horses were born, bred, trained, or sold on consignment through Rancho de los Cielos, including most of the US National champions (Las Vegas, 2014). All of our horses are double registered in the US and Brazil because we import the Brazilian inspectors to inspect them on behalf of the Brazilian registry. Our original breeding stock included 2 of the only 3 Brazilian champions imported to the US between 1990 and 2015. Our children from those champions are even now in foal/being bred to the most recently imported champion stallions, brought over by Brazilian born horse trainer and breeder, Claudia Bellandi of Ocala, Fl. At Rancho de los Cielos, we're about the ride: mounting you on the horse of your dreams, teaching you to get the best (and completely natural!) gait you came for, heading you and your horse down the road with us and our expertise always there for you and your Rancho de los Cielos horse.
Boarding: on our 20 teerraced, hillside acres, we offer pasture, paddock, and barn stall accomodations, instant access onto 300 acres of trail riding out our back gate, full service boarding that includes scheduled hoof trimming and Alfalfa+Bermuda hay feeds.
