    About

Nemo is a 3 year old registered Thoroughbred gelding, standing at 16 hands. He is being advertised as a companion horse, or as a possible light-riding horse. He is great with grooming, bathing, leading, tying, etc.. Overall, he has very good ground manners. He has no kick or bite, and has no vices such as cribbing. He is up to date on vaccinations, coggins, and deworming. Nemo goes well barefoot, and eats an average amount of food.

He has a wonderful personality, and is always the first to say hello when someone walks into his pasture. Thoroughbreds have a big reputation of being "hot", but not this guy. He is calm and cool. He can be a little stubborn at times, but is never mindlessly reactive. This is not a horse that does well with a handler who is pushy, bossy, rough, or high energy. Nemo is a sensitive guy, and does best with someone who is patient and calm. He does best with softer approaches.

Nemo is not great with the farrier or trailer loading, though he is not bad, either. He has made significant improvements with both. He no longer needs to be sedated to have his hooves trimmed, but he still gets a little nervous on farrier day, though he is not dangerous.
With trailer loading, it usually takes 15-30 minutes for him to load up. To get him to load, I walk into the trailer and encourage him with a bucket of yummy feed. When the trailer doors open, he will give the floor a few big sniffs, and then will tentatively follow the bucket inside.

Nemo is being posted for sale as a companion horse, or as a possible light-riding horse due to an old injury.

As a yearling, Nemo injured his hind legs in high tensile wire fencing. It seriously damaged both hind legs, and he spent several weeks with the vet. He healed well, but developed stringhalt in his hind right leg as a result of the injuries. Also as a result of the injury, he has a large scar on his hind left leg, though he has had no problems with that leg. It's just a little unflattering! Haha.

As for how the stringhalt affects him: When making a tight turn, or when backing up, Nemo has a little more difficulty balancing than other horses. He has to take it a little slower when doing either of those. It is also a little awkward for him to pick up his hind legs, however he can do it and does do it on a regular basis for me. He has adapted extremely well, and runs and plays with his pasture mates like normal. Both vets he has seen have said that he should be able to be successful with light riding on the flat. No jumping. No difficult footing. However, I have not started him under saddle yet (reasons stated below). This is why he is being advertsised as a companion horse OR a possible light riding horse. I would be glad to give more information on his condition if you are interested!

I have not started Nemo under saddle yet. He came to us in February very underweight. It was not my plan to buy him, but he was in a very bad situation, and I could not leave him. I have given him the past several months to gain weight and grow up a bit before starting him under saddle. He has gained several hundred pounds. At the time of posting this ad, he is still slightly underweight. However, I am not expecting very much interest, so I figure by the time anyone is interested, he will have gained the rest of the weight he needs, haha! He is now ready to be started under saddle, but I have simply not had the time.

Again, Nemo is being advertised as a horse suitable as a companion horse, or possible light riding. He has a great personality and is truly the barn favorite. The only downside to this horse is his stringhalt, but we all still think he's a stand-up guy!

The asking price is open to negotiation for a great home.
Vet and farrier references are REQUIRED. More photos are available upon request!
