Description

Sequoia is a flashy, athletic, and spicy 11 year old (2011) buckskin leopard Appaloosa mare with a forward and energetic mindset. She stands at a solid 15.1 hands and takes up a decent amount of leg. She is the kind of horse who thrives with a routine and being in a consistent work program.

Sequoia began working on dressage with her amateur owner in 2020 after a life of riding western and then spent two months in training to solidify her basics and be introduced to jumping. She competed at a starter level CT in October 2020 where she jumped clean with no schooling and took first place. She has since completed another 90 days of professional training. She has schooled up to 2’9” jumps at home and has scope and willingness to go higher. She is brave to jumps and enjoys them. She has been to multiple cross country schoolings and enjoys them.

Sequoia knows her leads, leg yields, front and hind pivots, sidepasses and backs. She tends to auto lead change on a jump course, and gets her leads the first time, most of the time in dressage. She clips, bathes, and stands for the farrier and vet. Easy to catch in the pasture (usually comes to you) and gets along great with other horses, donkeys, and dogs.

She has had extensive trail hacking experience, including in the Oklahoma cliffs and valleys, with her owner. She will go out alone or in a group. We have not found an obstacle she won’t complete on the trail. She has the potential to be an excellent fox hunting horse. Self loads on trailer. She also pulls a sled in the winter.

She would do best with an individual with enough confidence to keep her mind engaged with her big motor, and be consistent with her. She has a lot of buttons, but can get cranky if cues are not clear or consistent, or are too aggressive. She would do well with a confident intermediate rider in a lesson/training program who can give her a job. She prefers a rider who will not grip up on her, has a steady hand, and solid leg cues. She is currently being leased to a show home and will remain for sale until the right home comes along.
