Rider and her horse, Mary

Hey there. Pony Girl from the Midwest here! We had a fabulous ride today! Temperature was about 70 degrees and a beautiful mild wind. My girl and I both felt wonderful riding out in the grassy fields feeling renewed and refreshed. Such a wonderful relief from the heat and humidity that we had and it was horrible! I don’t know about you, but it’s way too much for me and my beloved purebred Connemara named Mary. During that long stretch of 90+ degrees with heat indexes of 100+ I would turn her out early and bring her in around 11am. Then maybe back out again for a short time around 4PM. What I found that she liked was I added a small bag of ice (that you buy at grocery store, gas station, etc.) to her stall bucket. Once the ice melted she loved drinking the cool water. I’m lucky because her stall has one window that faces north and another that faces West and she right across the aisle that has an opened door that faces south! So with the fan on her stall, it’s been kind of nice in the barn. I just hate seeing her stalled for so many hours but I think it’s for the best.

And the bugs! This has been a horrible year for stable flies and gnats. I have spoken with friends in other areas of the Midwest and they are saying the same thing. The only product that I have found that seems to work REALLY well is the original Pyranha in the yellow bottle or the Pyranha Zero Bite.  Their Zero Bite product in the green bottle is surprisingly really good. It is their all natural formula and this is the first year that I have seen it on store shelves. So I thought I would try it since I like that it is all natural. I have been very happy with it this year. A couple of years ago, I did my own experiment with fly sprays. I bought about 5 different kinds, natural and not, water based or not. That’s when I discovered that Pryanha seems to work the best for my horse and I have recommended it from then on.

Well that’s all for now, but stayed tuned for adventures of the Pony Girl and Mary
