Carly came to AAE in June 2020 from a distressed mustang sanctuary situation due to a health crisis. After 20 years of serving mustangs, the sanctuary was unable to adequately meet the needs of the horses. Carly was malnourished and a bit emaciated, but in otherwise reasonably good condition. She was a bit timid, but friendly. At pickup, she was haltered and loaded easily.
Carly enjoys grooming, accepts fly spray, and all four hooves can be handled and cleaned without issue. She has done well with the farrier for trims. Carly is mild-mannered and though she was lacking confidence when she arrived, she's blossoming into a really nice mare. She's light on the lead, willing, and wants to be with a person or another horse. She tends to need another horse nearby, but does well when taken from the herd.
As far as we know, Carly was never started under saddle and due to her age, she is not likely a good candidate as a riding horse. Carly is best suited for a companion home with someone that enjoys the presence of a social horse and has time to spend time with a horse that needs attention. She may be suitable as a companion for an advanced beginner.
Carly is current with dental and hoof care, vaccines, and deworming, and she has a microchip.
