Nelly is a green OTTB with both a pretty face and a great disposition. She has been off the track since 2019 and retired sound with 5 starts. She is b.o.m.b. proof! Her first week in Florida, she was ridden next to active construction and didn't even bat an eye: let alone being super quiet around pigs, chickens, dogs, running children, crackling electric fences, and crazy octopus sprinklers. This is a horse that will not only be a brave show partner some day, but also a horse that you can take out for an enjoyable trail ride. While she is very quiet, she is still green and needs to be in a consistent training program.
This lovely mare has been started over small fences and is now in full dressage training. She is currently being ridden in an eggbutt snaffle and is schooling basic training level dressage (w/t/c). I have also started playing with the idea of yielding off the leg when spiraling on circles. She has 3 very comfortable, athletic, and competitive gaits. While she is still green, she shows potential as an excellent 3-day event horse. She has nice gaits that show promise for scores in the 20's in the dressage, and based upon her braveness to jumps, I think she has great potential for the stadium and cross-country as well. I also believe that her gaits are competitive enough for a career solely as a dressage horse.
While Nelly is quiet under saddle and shows great potential for the show ring, she is still green and needs to be in a consistent training program with an intermediate rider.
She clips, loads, ties, and stands for farrier. No cribbing or other vices. She can be a little nervous on the trailer when standing still and paws. I think this will lessen with more exposure though. She currently goes out with a herd of 8 other horses and gets along very well. I think she would thrive in a barn where she can go out with at least one other horse, as she's quite the social butterfly.
Please feel free to reach out with any other questions.
