Ophelia BVF is a beautiful 16.1 Holsteiner Thoroughbred cross mare aged at approximately 6yo. Ophelia has all the characteristics that make up the best kind of mares. Strong conformation, delicate face, inquisitive, intelligent, athletic, and always willing to try something new. Ophelia lives well with both mares and geldings and is safe for all clients and staff to handle on the ground. She leads, ties, cross ties, grooms, and bathes without problem. She has been ridden all over the farm, down the road, and hacks out in the field happily by herself. Ophelia has been brought along as a hunter and is now ready to step in any direction. Her trainability and willingness to try new things leaves every door open. Ophelia enjoys jumping but also has very balanced flatwork. She is soft in the sides and responsive in the mouth.

On the flat, Ophelia is more of a leg ride. She goes quietly on a looped rein and collects nicely into contact when picked up and ridden from behind. Ophelia schools basic dressage work in her every day flat work and works nicely off the leg. She has a beautiful flat-kneed, ground covering trot and a canter to die for. When needed, Ophelia has filled in the gaps in my lesson program for my jr/adult amateur riders and has done very well. She is forgiving and tries her best to understand what is being asked of her by different levels of riders. Ophelia has just been started on her changes and offers them both directions. Although not finished, they will come along quickly with additional flatwork. She has both walk to canter transitions, and an excellent woah.

Over fences, Ophelia is a pleasantly forward ride. She is adjustable in both directions and is the perfect horse for someone that wants to be competitive in any ring or someone who wants to dip their toes in different disciplines. Ophelia has primarily been brought along as a hunter and has USHJA A rated miles with both a professional and an amateur. She has competed in the Baby Greens and Low Adult Amateur Hunters and still holds her Green card. Ophelia has a steady 12ft step and knows how to take a joke to the fence. At home, she has lightly schooled 1.0m courses and 1.20m singles. Ophelia shows a strong desire to jump and could make a very interesting prospect for many rings. She has tight knees and a quick hind end and shows all of the talent necessary to be successful at a high level of competition. Although the majority of her training has been arena based, she would also be an excellent choice for someone looking for a fox hunting mount.

Ophelia is sired by German Holsteiner stud Orleandro, USEF’s 2006 13th leading Hunter Breeding stallion. Orleandro himself competed in the jumper and dressage rings and is known for producing offspring with easy temperaments, correct conformation, fantastic jumps, lovely movement and versatility. Orleandro’s offspring are successful in both the hunter and jumper rings, some having success up to 1.50m. Ophelia possesses Orleandro’s best qualities and would also make an interesting addition to a sport horse breeding program.
