Betty is a striking 16.2 Thoroughbred mare and long-term member of our program. This mare has done it all for us and is ready to have a mom of her own. You will not find a more substantial, easy to keep, thoroughbred out there. Betty is absolutely no fuss. She can live in or out, by herself or with others. Lives well with both mares and geldings. Betty is safe for all clients and staff to handle on the ground. She leads, ties, cross ties, grooms, and bathes without problem. She has been ridden all over the farm, down the road, and hacks out in the field happily by herself. Although the majority of her training has been done in an English saddle, Betty has no problem saddling up to go on a trail ride. Her trainability and willingness to try new things leaves every door open.
On the flat, Betty is more of a kick/spur ride. She goes quietly on a looped rein and collects nicely into contact when picked up and ridden from behind. Betty schools basic dressage work in her every day flat work and works nicely off the leg. We have used her in many adult amateur flat lessons, and although we are not yet selling her as a beginner level horse, I definitely see her graduating to a children’s level ride in the coming years. Betty has an easy lead change, both walk to canter transitions, and an excellent woah.
Over fences, Betty is a pleasantly forward ride. This is the perfect horse for someone that wants to be competitive in any ring or someone who wants to dip their toes in different disciplines. Betty has USHJA A rated miles with both a professional and an amateur. She has competed in the 0.95m Jumpers and has never left a show without a win in the Thoroughbred Hunters. Betty has a steady 12ft step, an easy change, and knows how to take a joke to the fence. She has taught many junior and adult amateur lessons at our farm and I have confidence she would have no problem with a well riding kid. Although the majority of her training has been arena based, she would be a safe and excellent choice for someone looking for a fox hunting mount.
This mare is truly a joy to have and is a barn favorite. Betty comes with her original Jockey Club papers as well as microchip information. Take a look at Betty’s video or come check her out in Brookings, SD at Bay View Farms!
