Utah Man Reunited With Horse After 8 Years Apart
News General Equestrian
When you finally steal away for a few hours to get in some saddle time or plan the perfect road trip, we all want an equine that provides a safe and reliable experience. If we can pull it off with a little flash and pizazz, all the better.
Easy Jim is that trail mule deluxe.
His temperament earned him his name and is the foundation for this special mule. Easy Jim has mastered trails in:
• Alabama • Florida • Illinois • Kentucky • Mississippi • Oklahoma • Tennessee • Texas
Jim will go as slow as you need up and down terrain, but when the trail levels out, he has a ground-covering four-beat gait. His gait is an old-time saddle gait that is smooth and doesn’t wear you out on a long ride. Some might consider it a rack at his top speed.
Let’s return to his foundation to understand why this mule is rock solid. Jim’s training has been given by David Borntreger, known for his exceptional colt starting and patience over months and in different stages of development. David started Jim with his extensive groundwork program, backing from the ground daily for a mile or more. This detail builds the mind and musculature needed for confident gaiting and trail obstacle work.
Easy Jim backs with ease, parks out, ground ties, side passes, opens gates, side passes to a mounting aid, works entirely off of leg pressure or will neck rein, and crosses logs and water. Jim will wear a full fly mask when riding, will pony or be ponied, high line camps, hobbles, relaxed walk, four-beat walk or rack, lopes and canters, great headset, traffic safety, public trails with hikers or bikes, bathes, can be vacuumed or blown dry, clips, trim or shod with ease, worm, vaccinations, saddle, fly spray, and excellent hoof health.
Jim has competed in the show ring with youth and adult riders. He is comfortable on the rail from Saturday night country boy gaited horse shows to the state and World Championships for gaited mules in the big arenas of Shelbyville, TN. He has first-place finishes in youth gaited classes. Adult Western pleasure gaited is his specialty. He would make an excellent prospect for obstacle competitions.
