Chance is a beautiful 14 year old Quarter Horse / Arabian gelding. He stands about 15-15.2hh. He weighs around 1000#. His feet are in great condition and he has never been shod. He has all the best traits of both breeds; the speed of the Quarter Horse, and the spunk and spirited personality of the Arabian. He was trained via the Clinton Anderson method by Morgan Harris with Carolina Horsemanship back in - Click here to reveal phone number -

Chance is wonderful for groundwork including lunging. Under saddle, he can be a bit stubborn until he learns his rider and knows they are serious. He walks and trots great under saddle, but his under-saddle canter and gallop need work. I am not affiliated with a riding barn, so for as long as I’ve had him (10 years), I have not had access to a riding ring or round pen to perfect his canter. He is happy to run under saddle, but I’ve only ever been able to run him in open fields, and he wants to go where he wants to go and can be difficult to control. Sometimes he can be lazy under saddle, and I have to make him go at my pace. As I stated before, he can be stubborn until he learns to respect his rider and figures out that they are serious. He needs a home with an experienced rider who has access to facilities where they can help teach him to do these things, and is willing to put in some work teaching and learning with him. He is not spook proof, but he does not bolt, buck, or rear when he spooks. He typically just takes a big side-step or side-hop. He can be wary of objects he’s unsure about, but I typically let him sniff the object, and then desensitize him to it by rubbing it on his body and legs until he doesn’t mind it anymore, and then he goes about his merry way.

I had a back injury back in late 2009 (not sustained while horseback riding) and had to have spinal surgery in early 2010, leaving me with chronic back pain that makes horseback riding difficult. Due to this, he has been ridden only sporadically through the years, but he remembers everything and is very consistent. I rode him for the first time in over a year yesterday, and he rode just the same as he did the last time I rode him. We have a lot of land and have trails through our woods, so he has been trail ridden back there a lot. He would be a great fit for an experienced rider who wants a horse that they can grow with. With proper training, he could be a great lesson or beginner horse, but as he is right now, he is not a beginner horse.

Chance was my childhood horse and I love him dearly. I have had him since I was 11 years old. I am about to venture out on my own as I have recently accepted a job in the mountains, and unfortunately my new place does not have land for a horse. I would like to find him a good home with someone who will give him the time and attention he deserves. He hasn’t been in a horse trailer since I brought him home 10 years ago, but we got him in there with some food and you never would have known he was back there for the drive. We are asking $1500 to rehome him. Serious inquiries only please.
