Sequoia is a flashy, athletic 11 year old (2011) buckskin leopard Appaloosa mare with a forward mindset. She stands at a solid 15.1 hands and takes up a decent amount of leg. She is the kind of horse who thrives with a routine and being in a consistent work program.

Sequoia began working on dressage with her amateur owner in 2020 after a life of riding western and then spent two months in training to solidify her basics and be introduced to jumping. She competed at a starter level CT in October 2020 where she jumped clean with no schooling and took first place. Due to saddle fit issues, she had a lot of time off in 2021 but is finishing up 90 days of training, for sale. She has been schooling 2’6” jumps at home and has plenty of scope and willingness to go higher. She is brave to jumps and enjoys them. She has schooled cross country and after the first jumps, she figured out what it was about and was eager and willing.

Sequoia knows her leads, leg yields, front and hind pivots, sidepasses and backs. She has been started on changes. She stands for the farrier and vet, clips and bathes with no fuss. She is very easy to catch in the pasture (usually comes to you) and is great with all other horses, donkeys, and dogs.

She has had extensive trail hacking experience, including in the mountains with her owner. The trails are where her greatest joy lies. She will go out alone or in a group. We have not found an obstacle she won’t complete on the trail. Self loads on trailer. She also pulls a sled in the winter.

If ridden in the arena primarily, Sequoia needs a home where she is in a program with guidance. She can challenge her rider at times and does best with an individual with enough confidence to keep her mind occupied and be consistent with her. She would do well with an intermediate rider in a lesson/training program who can give her a job. She prefers a rider who will not grip up on her and has a steady hand.

She’s legged up and ready to work towards the spring season with the right owner.
