“Gentle Janie”

Alright, I know what you are thinking- “it’s almost impossible to find a safe horse, that’s still a good young age, is a suitable height and also has eye appeal.” And yes, it’s so rare to find all of those things in one horse. The key word is ALMOST; Because, Janie is that one in a million, the one everyone is searching for. Her name is couldn’t be any truer, Gentle Janie is the kindest mare I’ve ever been around. Sweet and patient as can be, the perfect age of 8 years old, standing 14.3hh, and she has the most unique, rare and beautiful blanket appaloosa coat.

This special lady is a pleasure to be around. She has excellent ground manners, great in the stall or easy to catch out in the big pasture. She will drop her head into your halter and happily follow wherever you lead. Not “marish” at all. Stands patiently while everyone grooms and tacks her up, for the farrier or a bath. She loves being pampered, and enjoys all of the little cousins petting her neck and planting kisses on her nose.

Gentle Janie is very easy to ride. She will willingly adapt to whoever is on her back, so even if you have limited experience, she is user friendly!

Out on the trails, Gentle Janie is happy to carry a beginner who needs to grow their confidence, or she will pick up and move out if someone experienced asks her for something more. She’s most content to walk along at any easy pace, whether that’s at the front, bringing up the rear or anywhere in the middle of a group. She will go wherever she’s asked, up steep banks, through creeks and mud, over logs or even through rough terrain where there is no trail, she does it all with a sweet and willing attitude.

So many people ask me where those “unflappable” horses are, that they can put their sisters boyfriends cousins grandma on, and not have to worry about them spooking or running off! Janie fits the bill.

She babysits our 6 year old and his cousins (7 and 5) while they roam around the farm and nearby trails. She doesn’t mind traffic, dogs or flags, other farm animals, tarps or really anything else that we’ve come across. She’s pushed cattle around and stands patiently while the kids play cowboy and rope the heelomatic roping dummy. I can’t say enough good about this mare, and I know that whoever buys her will be so happy with their investment.
