VINTAGE ORIGINAL SHEPLER SADDLE
A GREAT SHOW SADDLE WITH A HISTORY.Sheplers was started by a saddle and boot maker (1899) who had originally worked for Dehner Boot Co in Omaha Nebraska (1870). They did indeed make saddles and custom western boots on the site on West Kellogg street (highway 54). They phased out the saddles due to the whole 'urban cowboy' thing, in the 70's and western clothes really took off. When the clothes outsold the saddles, they dumped the saddlery. By 1982 they had done away with all their tack and horse supplies and became solely a clothing and boot store. They made really quality saddles, some just work saddles, some very fancy. Sheplers made saddles for Roy Rodgers and Dale Evans that were in the movies and many of the fancy saddles that come out for the Rose Parade were built alongside this one! It's a wonderful piece of history, and is part of Wichita's western heritage. This is hand carved, very ornate with real silver accent, he seat was replaced and comes wth matching headstall, breast collar, and back girth (not original, but nice). Email for more pics
