Sweet Rescued Gelding Looking For Forever Home. GREAT Pasture Sitter. Sound/Healthy/Easy Keeper
"River" was rescued by us back in February from a sad situation that had him on his way to slaughter. He had life in his eyes and appeared to have a lot more to offer. Not much is known about his past, but he is healthy, sound, sweet, and a total goofball. He was very thin/rainrot/etc when we got him but already has a shiny healthy coat coming in, gaining weight like it's his job, and loves attention.
He is somewhere between 15-18yrs old according to 2 vets. He probably had poor dental care for a long period of his life as based on teeth alone he was thought to be 25yrs old. He does NOT act or look at old at all so we knew something was up. We feel safe saying he is about 17yrs old. He does have some old scars on his legs (looks to be from wire fencing) but gets around totally sound with no lamness. Possibly some minor arthritis in his hocks and that is all. Very healthy, eats great, teeth good now, current coggins, rabies/tet. shots (due for his 5 way Spring Shot), and wormed with a PowerPac.
Loads, Hauls, Ties/Crossties, Great for vet and farrier, fantastic bare feet, gets along with all other horses and is a GREAT babysitter for mares/geldings/ponies/etc. He is currently babysitting a 37yr old mare.
He does have a pep in his step and walks quickly. He is on a mission to go somewhere all the time, so not a "senile old pony" for a kid. Don't let his age fool you, he had no idea he is supposed to be "old".
We do not know his prior riding history so we are selling him as a "companion/pet" type but we have had a professional on him a few times for his opinion. He feels he used to be a show horse, possibly used for rodeo type events (barrel racing maybe). He is a little sour at moment and gets a little cranky when you ask him to do things but he isn't bad. Quiet but probably not suitable as a "Trail Horse/Husband Horse". He would be good for someone who is an experienced rider and just wants something to play around with (4H, playing around at home etc) who wants to get him back into a program. We have no idea how many years it has been since he was in full work. He neckreins, walk, nice little trot, and has a soft little canter, just not a beginners horse. Does not like to be mounted from mounting block, only from ground (working on that). Soft mouth.
He is located in Burton, Ohio and available to be seen. We do not have a use for him since selling our farm, but have a tendancy to rescue animals all the time to find them forever homes so this is nothing new for us! We will only sell him to a WONDERFUL home. He would be a GREAT babysitter for retired horses/babies/ponies/goats/etc. Very laid back and quiet in pasture. Still gaining some weight but will be an easy keeper here in a few months when his grain can get cut back. Eats all his hay/grain well etc. Enjoys grooming/bathing and could easily be enjoyed by kids with supervision etc.
$500 (Negotiable to excellent home if gone before May 1st. Just looking to get a portion of cost of rescuing him/vet fees etc covered) Non-Auction/Slaughter Agreement Must Be Signed. Good home only!
