"Final Straw" or Meeko as he is known around the barn is a gorgeous, sweet, talented Thoroughbred Gelding. Everyone who meets him falls in love. He is a barn favorite! You will not find a kinder more personable fellow to be your best friend.
This guy has shown low hunters in the past but seemed that he might prefer being a jumper or would love doing some eventing! He is a nice mover, is soft in the bridle, soft with your seat and listens to the aids. He has changes down too! Rides in a plain or french link eggbutt snaffle, don't need anything serious for this sweet boy.
Meeko has had some time off (not his fault, he is sound and sane) but was mis-paired with a youth rider then went to a trainer who seemed just to let him sit in the pasture. Due to these facts Meeko needs a refresher course and conditioning. He is out of shape and needs a tune-up.
If you are looking for a solid easy going hunter on the flat - this is the gelding for you! He has changes, is slow (generally) and easy going on the flat with a nice frame and floaty movement. Put a couple months on him for conditioning and he is ready made to go! He has even been ridden by advanced students in lessons on the flat and done beautifully. He does like a rider with a soft seat who is forgiving with the hands as well.
If you are looking for a O/F horse then you would need to be dedicated to putting in some time with Meeko to get him back into the swing of things. He has jumped and knows courses, generally 2'6" but has the potential to be a 3' horse. However he gets quick and a bit nervous o/f right now and would need a few months of great conditioning/confidence building groudnwork first then a good half year or more of cavelletti/trot poles/crossrails/stop n go's etc to balance collect and frame him up. So yes, he has and can again be a jumper but we think he would need a good solid year with someone who wants to put the time into him to make him really good and not rush him through with a lot of loop holes.
We think that over fences he would be best as a jumper NOT a hunter. We also think that he would enjoy being an eventer as well but again would need someone with experience to help teach him.
On the ground this guy is a sweeeeeetheart! He has lovely manners, has no vices. He loads, ships and unloads very easy. He baths well and is good with the vet and farrier. Easy to catch, playful with others in the field. Just a gorgeous kind hearted gelding!
