Safe, experienced trail horse, Belgian cross gelding
Lots of heart and a strong work ethic, Winston’s a chestnut Belgian X Quarterhorse gelding, 16.2 HH, about 1,400 lbs, bright eyed, healthy – no vices – a perfect husband horse. 16 years old, he’s a pleasure to care for and ride. Shots, worming and farrier work up to date.
He’s been used extensively in the mountains and handles all kinds of terrain - steep hills, deadfall, rocky narrow trails, side hills, open meadows, tight timberland, rushing creeks and bridges all in a steady, calm manner. He’s easy to ride, cheerful under saddle - a good boy in the arena but his excellence really shows on the trails. Winston goes out politely in groups or is happy riding alone. He stands well (next to anything) for mounting. He has a great ground-eating walk and good transitions up and down, without a lot of leg required. This is a horse you can relax on and enjoy the view and conversation. His trot and canter are very smooth and nicely forward, without feeling like he might run off. He’s good in traffic, had lots of exposure to ATVs, logging trucks, helicopters, dirt bikes, heavy equipment, dogs, bears, moose, deer, elk etc. He’s been used for camping and as a hunting/pack horse by previous owner.
Winston is a gentleman to load and trailer, and will stand tied quietly for lunch or as long as you need him to. Easy to catch even on 200 acres – this friendly guy loves people and walks right up to you even when you’re carrying a halter; he’s good for the farrier, good to worm or give electrolytes, bath, vaccinate, sheath clean. He gets along well with other horses and is mid-low level in the herd hierarchy. He loves to play with his pasture mates and has a wonderful attitude in general.
Asking $3,000 to approved home.
