SOLD...CONGRATULATIONS DIANE!! Brook’s Rocky Gem (Jasper) is a 5 year old red chocolate Mountain Horse, registered and certified with the Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse Association. He was broke to ride by a professional gaited horse trainer and received 90 days of continuous training. Jasper’s continued education has been based on the principals of Natural Horsemanship. He is confident, respectful and has a solid training foundation. He bathes, clips, loads, stands quietly for mount and dismount, responds to light direct reining and is learning to neck rein. He has never worn shoes and therefore has excellent feet. He respects the bit and accepts all tack, including a tail crupper. He is easy to catch, in fact, is typically is the first to greet you in the pasture. Jasper is up-to-date on all vaccines, dental care and has been de-wormed regularly. He has an up-to-date ‘negative’ coggins and sports a natural barefoot trim which gets refreshed every 6 weeks. This young horse has been exposed to all kinds of wildlife and man-made obstacles. He does exceptionally well riding in groups and will lead, follow or hang out in the middle. He is good with dogs, water, steep hills, farm equipment, tunnels, moving vehicles, bridges, crosses large logs and plows right through deep mud puddles and water. Jasper’s typical trail ride ranges between 3-5 hours in the foothills of Western North Carolina (Moses Cone/Blowing Rock, South Mountain State Park, Leatherwood Mountain and Uwharrie). Recently, Jasper completed a 7.5 hour ride at Iron Mountain in Ivanhoe, VA. The longer ride was primarily because we were lost and had to come back 3 miles by the road with moving traffic…he exceeded my expectations! In summary, Jasper exhibits all the fine traits that the Mountain Horse breed is so well known. His beautiful red chocolate coat pales in comparison to his outstanding personality and willingness to please. He is still considered a young horse so it goes without saying that there is still more to experience but at this stage of his life I am exceptionally pleased with his progress. Jasper enjoys free access to shelter in the barn and has a good pasture to exercise and enjoy grazing. He has only been stalled for training purposes and during one overnight camp trip…in both cases he handled the confinement very well. Jasper has no known vices or health issues....and I sure would like to see him stay that way...therefore, a good home is a must. His ideal new owner would be someone who can provide a healthy living environment and interested in continuing his natural horsemanship training for the primary purpose of trail riding and possibly competitive trail or an occasional fun show. He has been in a show ring during his training and did very well with all the excitement of the crowd and strange horses. He even won 2nd place out of more than 20 horses in one of the fun events!! Overall, Jasper is an extraordinary young horse that will make some lucky person a heck of a trail horse. In the event you are in need of a nice trail saddle I am also open to selling his customized 16" Dixieland Western Saddle. Thank you for your interest.
