This is a nicely built/proportion registered PHA 11363
dappled palomino brood mare, named Barbie. She is about 14.2hh. She is not herd bound and the 7 foals we got out of her by 3 different stallions were not herd bound either. All her foals were a little smarter than average, curious, and friendly. She is not a halter puller, loads and unloads well from trailer, stands quiet on a hitch rail and usually easy for a farrier to trim. She is easy to breed, usually does not kick when in strong heat and under halter so has been easy to hand breed. She raised 7 foals for us with no foaling difficulties. She is also a very good milker and mother. She is use to ranch fencing and pole barn shelter.
On the minus side, she is not a huggy pet me type of horse, prefers the company of other horses better than humans. But she loves treats and oats so can usually halter her from the left side once she learns to trust you enough at treat time. I also can give a few more catch tips to her buyer. She was broke to ride, years ago bulls busted fence and she got into feed wagon. Only a young Vet was available for help that day, but got mineral oil in her lungs, she has been with heaves ever since, but she knows her limitations and lives with it. We have not ridden her much since. She has raised the 7 foals since then. Winter time, avoid giving her dusty hay, or feed it on the ground so she does not breathe in so much dust. She does best on grass.
Also three years ago my husband slipped up and changed from grass hay to alfalfa to quick and foundered her on the front. That was her only attack since, and we avoid giving her grain unless she has a foal nursing, and we avoid feeding her alfalfa, so far that is working to prevent repeat attacks. Normally she is an easy keeper that does well on good grass and grass hay.
She is up-to-date with Rabies, West Nile, Sleeping Sickness, and Tetanus. Boosters are due next March. Calves chewed off her tail last spring so it is short but growing out. She use to have a creamy white mane and tail but three pregnancies bred to a black stallion resulting in black/dark foals must of changed her hormones, she now has many dark hairs in her mane and tail. She is by a Registered Spanish Mustang chestnut overo paint and out of a registered palomino mare 7/8 Arabian, 1/8 Quarter Horse. Her dam comes from a line of palominos.
With some preventive care she might still raise a few more nice foals for someone. We have a serious water problem from an overflowing lake into our horse pasture that will not go away quick, so need to get head count down. Would like to see her go to a good home if possible. She weighs about 950-1000 pounds.Ask a question about this horse
