Searching for the perfect horse
I have been looking for the perfect horse for 4H for almost 2 years, and finally it paid off: Please meet Koda, a 4-year-old paint gelding. Registered with AQHA and APHA as Docs Silver Pistols. I would like to share a few tips on buying a horse the SMART way, and not the hard way. 1. Pay cash whenever possible 2. Look around: don't just settle with the first horse you try. 3. Be willing to go about $400 over your horse budget 4. Ask around; does anybody know this horse? What is his reputation like? Good or bad? 5. When you go out to see him, mess with him; cover his eyes with your hands, touch his feet, cover one nostril for a second, and see if he has issues with it. 6. If you get there, and the horse is already tacked up and sweaty, he is NOT the horse for you; it means they rode the ever-loving tar out of him BEFORE you got there. So, there you have it! Feel free to add more in the comment box. Thank you for reading, and good luck on your search.
