The Godolphin stable of Dubai's ruling Maktoum family finished 1-2 in the $10 million Dubai World Cup on Saturday, with Monterosso - a 35-to-1 longshot in American betting pools - beating Caponi by 3 lengths in the world's richest thoroughbred event.
Six American horses ran on the World Cup program, with Giant Ryan's fifth-place finish in the $2 million Golden Shaheen the best performance. Bay Area-owned The Factor finished sixth in that race, and El Camino Real Derby runner-up Little Chappy ran seventh in the $2 million UAE Derby.
-- Three-time Kentucky Derby-winning jockey Calvin Borel rode Take Charge Indy ($17.40) to a front-running, 1-length victory over 31-to-1 longshot Reveron in the Grade 1, $1 million Florida Derby. Union Rags, the 2-to-5 favorite, finished a neck behind Reveron in third after being stuck in traffic for much of the race.
