This mule has a ground covering walking pace!
You are welcome to email me directly if you have more questions or would like to come out and see Sippi. sharie001@yahoo.com
Mississippi aka Sippi is located in South East Louisiana. I believe he is a little over 14hh, and around 13 years old. I suspect he may be gaited, if he is gaited he would have NO trouble keeping up with gaited horses or mules. The ONLY reason I wish to sell or trade Sippi is because he is so much faster paced than my husbands Belgian mule, Jack, who is very slow. Sippi is an awesome mule, and would have to go to a good home where he receive lots of attention. Below I have posted a link to you tube video I made of Sippi. I am a novice (only about 2yrs experience with equines) so please do not hold my horsemanship skills or lack of skills should I say against Sippi.
Mississippi is a little over 14hh (probably 14.2hh), my husband, who is around 5' 10" tall and a little over 200lbs road him in the mountains with no problems. Mississippi is full of personality. He leads behind 4-wheeler, can side pass (on ground or in saddle), will pick up hooves simply by pointing to shoulder and asking him to, extremely smart and easy to teach, I've taught him many things simply by showing him and he will mimic me (most things I've taught him within a couple of minutes). Sippi is NOT ear shy, and loves his ears and butt scratched. He knows a lot of verbal and hand cues, will neck rein and/or work off of leg and verbal cues. Sippi is very easy to catch and halter, he will even open the gate for me often times after I unlatch it (puts chin over gate and walks backwards).
He LOVES attention, especially children. Noise does not bother him, I play all sorts of music and animal sounds for the mules daily. He is accustom to the sound of gunfire (previous owner said they shot off of him), I have shot various guns around him and he seems to be fine with it.
We have hauled him to Colorado hunting elk and he goes up the mountain smooth as glass. He can and will climb over, under, or through, just about anything (he is respectful of fences around pasture though). The previous owner said he was 10 years old two years ago when we purchased him but vet said they thought he may be a year or two older, so I would say he is around age 13. He does not spook easily at all, and the couple of times I've witnessed him startled he took three steps to the side (no bolting, bucking, etc.). I don't believe there is such a thing as a bombproof horse or mule, it's how they react when startled that is important to me not whether or not they were surprised. Sippi has been around fireworks, the neighbors kids kicked a huge ball underneath his feet while I was in the saddle, non of which seemed to phase him.
He doesn't like being confined to a stall especially by himself (he is afraid he will miss something), he will sometimes paw when stalled, but if you put some kicking chains on him while in the stall for one day, it breaks him of it for a long time. He loads in trailer, stands for saddling and mounting, is good for farrier, and gentle with kids (but may move a little too fast for kids under saddle, but will lead around with kids on him). Sippi can also scent track and would be a good candidate for equine air-scenting training (http://www.airscentinghorse.com/home.htm). If you give him his head (loose rein) and let him take the lead he will show you all sorts of stuff, like game trails, he has tracked deer back to a thickets, another time he brought me to see dead animals, and even showed me where coyotes were coming in near his pasture while I was riding him. Sippi will work without treats (video shows me giving him treats), and is easily saddled and clipped without the chute (I will try to post another video showing this).
Sippi also has no fear of tarps, plastic bags, water, bicycles, animals (wild or domesticated including but not limited dogs and snakes) and many other obstacles or things that typically spook other equines, he is fairly fearless. He is also accustomed to being on dog tie-down (I thread rope through hose so he can’t get tangled easily), and he likes to help me do yard work. He will trim the weeds around my flowerbed but doesn’t bother the flowers, lol.
He can get a little excited while leading on ground sometimes (mostly when you first get him out the pasture) and will occasionally try to go past you when leading, this behavior is easily corrected if I twirl the end of the lead rope while leading him, and he typically falls back into place. I am working on correcting this behavior. He has never bucked, reared, kicked, or bitten, and we have owned Sippi for a little over 2 years. Sippi would make an awesome mount for the trail, competitive riding, jumping, working cattle, you name it. He is fast as lightening and can turn on a dime, he also will go slower, and keep pace with slower equines on the trail.
