I have had Lass since she was foaled - I had a halter on her up until she was a yearling - when she was young I was able to corner her in her stall to change her halter and work with her, but she broke her halter when she was a yearling and would not let me near her to get another on. I had to tranquilize her with pills to get a halter on her again, and when that halter broke a few weeks later I couldn't get another on her, so she has not been physically handled since then.
I have raised Thoroughbreds for 25 years and handle them all the same, and never have had a problem with any of them except Lass. For some reason she has never trusted people, and flips out whenever anyone tries to go near her. I have tried sitting in a stall with her for hours, and the best I have done is to get her to come up to me and take treats out of my hand. She will let me pet her neck and shoulder, but not her her head or further back. To this day, if I go in her stall to put shavings down she still tries to climb the back wall, even though it is something I do every day. I just don't have the time or facilities to go any further with her, I am hoping if someone gets her away from her herd and into a round pen situation, they may make some progress with her. She would make a super broodmare prospect if she was handleable. She is Jockey Club and NYTB registered. |
