"Moose" is a thoroughbred/appaloosa cross who needs a second shot at life as someone's best friend! He is approximately 25 years old, based on our vet's evaluation, but he's in great shape and shows no signs of slowing down! We took him in from a home who could no longer afford his care, and now he is healthy and ready to meet his new pal.

On the ground, he can be pushy, so he will need a confidant handler who can remind him who is in charge. He walks on a lead, picks up his feet, bathes, loads, etc. He hadn't been ridden in over 4 years when we got him, and the first time we saddled him up, he was a little nervous about mounting, but once the rider was on, he was so excited to get going! He has very smooth, comfortable gaits, and responds fantastically to leg signals. He doesn't like to walk, but he doesn't "bolt" or try to run away with you- he just jigs a little and does a super slow jog instead. With some more practice, it will all come back to him, I'm sure. He would be fine for an intermediate rider who can just sit back and enjoy him!

Don't let this guy's age fool you, he still has plenty of spunk! If you are looking for a companion for those afternoon trail rides, or arena work to learn basic jumping, english, western, trail, or dressage, this guy can do it! If you are an experienced rider who wants a fun but safe horse, this could be the one for you! Moose is available to the right home for a small adoption fee of $300, with an agreement stating that if you can no longer care for him, he will come back to us. He is also available for lease (you come to ride whenever you want, as often as you want without the commitment of owning a horse) for $150 a month, which will cover some of his feed and routine care.
