Calcifer the Fire Demon is a 2004 OTTB oozing with talent. He has schooled 3'0/3'3 courses and 1st level dressage, all with a level head. Cal has a flying lead change when he is in work and asked correctly, and with time could easily become automatic. No bite, rear, buck or kick. When jumping he is brave and honest to a fence and will take the long or short spot if asked. Cal has a history in eventing, trail riding, and has taught lessons to beginners as well. Goes in a hackamore or French link, barefoot, and has been trained for tackless riding. Cal also knows a few tricks, including "touch" "come" and "stay".
When consistently in work, Cal is a babysitter and will tote around first timers in and out of the ring. He is never hot in hand and does not grope or drag you when leading. Stands quietly on the cross ties and for vet and farrier. Aced when clipped, but with positive reinforcement training, I clipped him this winter without. Slow to trailer, but 10 minutes of patience gets him on easily (Can elaborate). He has been out of work for a while and snaps back with the basics but will need a refresher for something of higher level.
Cal also has a hygroma (synovial fluid in the joint) on his front knee that does not affect him. I have it checked yearly by a vet and it has not changed or affected him in the 3 years I've had him, nor had it at his previous owners whom I knew very well. Can provide references.
I started him back in work last month. I have videos of his first ride back to give an idea of how great he is to get to work. Lives in or out, by himself or with mares or geldings. He does not get stir crazy if inside due to inclimate weather. His first ride he was in a stall for a month because of messy fields. Hopped right back in the game, no need for lunging at all. He's not a push or pull ride, he has his own motor and it can be adjusted as needed. He can ride on the buckle or take you around a jumper's course.
Cal has been there, and done that, but would now appreciate a lower level job. He'd be great suited as a lower level lesson horse, or a horse for a young child to grow up on! Please contact me with any questions, he already has a vet check under his belt that I can forward.
