GORGEOUS Tricolor SSH- 4yrs 17hh
Abel, a 4 yr old 17hh tri colored racking horse. He is the first one to greet you in the pasture and is jaw dropping. Every time I have ridden him at Camp Croft (local state park), people ask me if I would sell him. Unfortunately he needs more miles than I have time to put on him, and I am now looking for a little older "been there done that" horse.
I LOVE Abel, he will make a great horse for any confident and experienced rider. He would not be a good fit for a beginner due to his age. He still likes to test the stern-ness of a rider at the beginning of a ride (a small tap with a riding crop makes him act perfect, lol, he just has to know that you know how to ride before he will give you respect). He needs some round pen work just to touch up on respect--if I had a round pen I would do this myself, but I don't. He would make a FANTASTIC field trail, endurance, or competitive trail horse- he LOVES being out and can go for hours without getting tired, but doesn't pull your arms off while riding either. He is pretty light-reined on the trail, VERY light reined to gait (you don't have to "get in his mouth"), and is ridden in SNAFFLE BIT only.
He was most recently being ridden by a young gentleman who is a confident rider on green horses and was ridden barefoot. He is wonderful for a farrier but only receives trims, he is fine to ride barefoot and has great hooves, although I would use boots with any horse on an extremely rocky trail
He has never had any soundness or colic issues and gets along well in the herd, being a middle-placed gelding. He does get spirited around feed time and needs to be fed in his own stall or paddock (away from other horses), as he feels threatened with other horses around and can get testy with people around feed. This is due to his birth farm, who fed him and two mules from one big trough and Abel didn't get to eat without fighting for it.
He is currently boarded and the farm owner loves him. He is a truly stunning and gorgeous horse who just needs someone with more time and experience than myself. He is a big boy so he does need lots of hay and grass, he maintains weight fairly easily but isn't as easy a keeper as my older twhs. He currently gets timothy pellets (standlee) for dinner and is out to pasture for 4 hours a day, with hay for overnight snacking. He is also on equipride for minerals/supplements. He is "fit as a fiddle" and is a knock-out handsome horse.
I love him and I will not sell him to just anyone- it must be a kind owner with good horse leadership skills and an acceptable barn/stall/pasture environment. I will be happy to answer any further questions for anyone. I am asking $2,500 for him. He is up to date on shots and coggins and wormer. HE is tobiano and CAN be registered SSHBEA, I was in the process of having him registered when I decided to sell him. I prefer his owner have natural horsemanship skills or be willing to send him to a natural horsemanship trainer. He was a beginner level horse when I purchased him, however he has been left to his pushy misbehavior for months and I would consider him green, needing at least a month of natural horsemanship training or round pen work and ride time before he would be ready for a lower level intermediate rider (like me) again. He has recently been a bit of a brat for a rider, not throwing them, but pitching a fit, to see what he can get away with, hence the need for some respect work. :)
