Gentle, bold Shire gelding
TJ is a big (approx. 17HH give or take half a hand or so) coming 7 year old Shire gelding. Super great disposition - gentle, easy going, not easily spooked or ruffled by anything. With some work will make an excellent mount for kids or beginners - trustworthy, dependable, and eager to please; endlessly patient and forgiving of my beginner mistakes. Can be a bit passive/stubborn if he thinks he can get away with it so does require firm, consistent handling. Really loves going out on the trails and exploring new places so would be the perfect candidate for trail/pleasure/low level CTR. Is totally confident and comfortable going out alone or in a group.
Stands for farrier, worming, shots, etc. Ties (straight or ground), trailers, leads. Good, solid manners. Price does not reflect his quality - it is purely reflective of his lack of training. He is very very green, needs a lot of work on the bare basics before being able to move up to more serious riding. Due to lacking the proper/safe area, he has not been taught how to lunge and still needs work on bending/suppling. Moves away from pressure consistently. Needs some "sacking out" as he gets nervous/shies away from new equipment. Quick learner, smart, eager little green bean. He's a quick study and shouldn't take much to get him going in the right direction. No bite, kick, bolt, rear, or any aggressive/dominating behaviours. Not barn/herd bound, super friendly and gets along easily with everyone from other horses to livestock to people.
TJ is just a big, dependable boy who has been a late maturer and is still a bit of a baby - which is most likely taking longer to grow out of as he hasn't been put to work and has mostly been left to be a horse (iow; eat). No health issues aside from abscesses which he seems to get quite often (I believe the main culprit is our very wet climate) but otherwise he's a super easy keeper on just a bit of a vit/min mix and a few flakes of hay a day. His grazing needs to be restricted (or kept muzzled) otherwise he will pack on the pounds very easily. UTD on all vet/farrier work ups except for teeth which will be done on the 16th of this coming month.
Would make an excellent driving prospect, trail/pleasure, low level dressage or western horse. Not a jumper as he is not built for it. Big, lofty movement when asked to move out. Quite a surprising amount of stamina for such a big guy - when fit he has no problems going for 4 hour + rides through the trails (which includes all manner of hill work and obstacles) and has that nice quiet/unflappable temperament to make him an ideal horse to go camping/packing with. Asking $1500 OBO for just him, and for an extra $2500 (+ purchase price so $3500 total) will throw in all his tack/extras which include a like new (used about a dozen times) 18" XXW Zaldi San Jorge bi-colour dressage saddle (retails over $3500 new), white Back on Track dressage pad (used once), new black Prestige leathers (used once), wide Sprenger bow-balance stirrups (used once), 34" black girth (used once), all 4 of his halters + leads (2 rope, 1 leather, 1 nylon), Weaver light brown western headstall with 6 1/2" loose ring french link bit and 22' white with gold thread mecate rope reins with brown quick change slobber straps (also includes the original matching split reins).
I'm on Galiano Island however there are several reputable haulers around this area with very reasonable prices so shipping wouldn't be hard to arrange. Only reason for selling is that I am just not able to give him the time and training he deserves and I want to see him land safely with someone who will utilize his talents and work with him. He is a really nicely put together boy with an excellent mind and has a lot of potential that someone with more experience and time could really tap into and help bring to fruition.
