Durango is a gorgeous and willing 12 year old gelding.
He is 15 hands, and not registered.
He's got a nice trot and I really smooth at the cantor.
He still direct reins – does not neck rein yet.
Currently being used for lesson horse. The young ladies love him.
If set small child on him alone he will walk and whoa when asked, and he walks like he is on egg shells. Loves kids.
I am some physical disabilities, and he stands perfectly still for me to mount and dismount. He waits while I lay on him trying to get my feet set and won't walk until I tell him too. Due to my back I also have to basically lay on him and sloth off and he takes great care of me. Walks nicely out through the trails and back pasture or woods alone. Does not need another companion horse to accompany him.
On the flip side - he needs a more capable rider once and a while that will work him and let him trot and cantor. If you ask him to run - he will take off digging and turn tight when asked. Thus my friend is introducing him to barrels currently. Loves them! Apparently he jumps too - so she is going to start teaching him to jump also. A very young child rode him alone walking over the poles already.
Does what he is asked to do.
He does need a strong bit to keep him focused.
Stands great for farrier, lifts feet before you even touch them as you lean in. Worms easy, usually fly spray easily, and a little squirmy sometimes with shower but OK.
The only downside we have found is that he does need a good bit, and that if he is limited to only slow trail walks and never worked more he gets unhappy. Needs a home where he can do more than babysit me on long slow walks.
