I have owned “Eddie” for almost seven years and he is my forever horse. A total lovebug, he is a 13 year old, 15.2hh Appaloosa gelding. The half-lease is ON FARM. He is easily accessible in north-central MA. Tack is provided (but BYOS if it fits) and the lease is a flat rate (I will still be covering regular vet/ farrier bills).
The ideal rider for Eddie is intelligent and patient. He is best suited for an intermediate/ advanced rider, but he knows who’s on his back and will walk/trot a beginner around all day. That being said however, I am looking for someone who is decicated to ride him consistently and keep his training goals in mind. He is very fun to ride - he’ll keep you actively thinking and working the whole time. Has a lot of room to move forward with his training. I am looking forward to someone bringing their experience and ideas into the lease!
Eddie is an excellently-mannered, honest mount. He is WTC and jump (he LOVES jumping). Everywhere we go, he is the barn favorite. He likes to be worked and responds best to consistency, currently being ridden 5-6x a week. He can go on trails alone or in a group, in front or following. Last summer, I worked at a barn that offered recreational trail rides and he was my guide mount. Great on the trails, but does get nervous if something pops out from the shadows (no horse is bombproof, but he will spook in-place). I do occasionally ride him with small spurs if we are jumping or while doing more advanced flatwork, but doesn’t need them. He is very sweet and loves receiving attention. He’ll practically fall asleep while being brushed. Does not kick, bite, buck or rear. Ground-ties and stands like a good boy for all services as well as baths! He responds best to riders that work to gain his trust and keep his attention.
The facility where he is located has an indoor, outdoor, jumps available, a quarter mile track enclosing a few of the pastures (close to the main barn) and fabulous trails (multiple hay fields, sand pits, hills and forest) on the property. Manager lives on-site. Barn is quiet mostly and not a stressful environment for anyone. No trainer at the facility, however, you may take lessons if you choose with a trainer of your choice, as long as it’s approved through me. I am also willing to give lessons on him to the lessor, free of charge (if interested in this option, I can provide you with my experience and certifications).
PLEASE NOTE: Eddie has ERU (moon blindness) in his left eye. He is not blind, but he has some vision loss. The only trouble I find is if we turn too sharply to the left for a jump (he can’t see it well and may run-out, essentially rider error) and when the light changes (dark to light) on a surface. He does spook a little more on his left side. It is well managed and I closely monitor his eye with the vet. He is still capable of working to his full physical extent.
My schedule is flexible and I am generally available to meet with someone at their convenience. I am also willing to negotiate the terms to the half-lease. If interested, it came be a quarter or full lease. However, the lease must be ON-FARM.
