Kamastu is trained for walk/trot barrels, but was mostly trail ridden, and we have started him on english. He stands at 14.1h, and is a fast little mover. He loves to go out on trial rides, but does not care to much for riding with other horses. He will ride with others, as long as he gets to be way in the front, and you do not try to make him stay right with the group. He is traffic smart, trail smart. He loads, stands, is doing better about bathing, has never been clipped that we know of, does not kick or bite, has no bad habits, is a very easy keeper. He is on Patriot Pellet, getting half a scoop of a 3qrt scoop twice a day, with hay and forage all day. He stalls good, but he is kept free roam here. You can leave him out to pasture, and brush him every day for a month or more, then lunge him for about half an hour to burn some energy, then jump right on him and ride.
He is a Buckskin color, with a very thick mane. His previous owner, decided she wanted to cut his tail instead of brushing it, and then could not afford to feed him, so she brought him to use. The only real down side to Kamastu is that a: He has very big trust issues when it comes to new people, b: He is a very big emotions horse, and c: He is very high spirited. It will take him a few weeks to begin to trust a new person, but when he does learn to trust you, he'll follow you around. When you are riding him, the key thing is to remember to stay calm. If you are scared on his back, it will cause him to become skittish and jumpy. But if you stay calm, he will stay calm. He goes off of your emotions big time.
He's high spirited, but I have had kids on him before and he did good. You just have to lunge him for a bit first to help burn his energy, and the child should remain calm on his back. He does better with a confident child on his back than one who scares easily. He would make a good kids pony, once his energy has burned down a bit. But that is only because he was used to running all the time before he came to us, so he is still learning to calm down and not run all the time. But I have had 5yr olds on him while I lead them around and he was fine, and I have had a 12yr on him in the round pen after he was lunged for about 30 mins and he did just fine. I would however not let a child ride him out on the trails in a group of other horses. He gets hard to control out on the trails in a group and would need an exp. rider for group trail rides, but for just riding around the yard or round pen, he'd be good.
He is up for a free adoption, and we would like him to stay with us until he has had a chance to get his coggins pulled, teeth floated, and shots given, which should be done within a week when we have received are tax return, but we do encourage those who are interested in adopting him to come out and see if you would like him, and to sign the adoption papers if you do, and take him home as soon as we have received his neg. coggins, or if you would like him without signing the contract, I am willing to trade him for another horse, prefer something gaited or any breed foal, but will take any breed adult, between weanling to 16yrs. Vices and small health issues I have no problem with. I am giving him till the end of Feburary, then I will just keep him. I can send a water-marked sample of his adoption contract if you are interested, as well as more pics. For a trade e-mail me all the info about the horse you are willing to trade, and pics as well. I have no trailer at this time, so it would be up to you for transportation.
