King (Mayan King, 2002) is a 16.1 off-track thoroughbred gelding. King is a true athlete and is suited for a confident and strong rider. He has some experience with cross country and novice level jumping. A lovely and flashy mover but needs to learn to use hind end and work into a frame. With a little more time King would make an excellent three-phase eventing prospect. He has never showed but has schooled at several area farms and excels at cross country. King is a proud horse with a race track work ethic, learns very quickly, but needs guidance and consistency. He is excellent on trails and has even been in two parades. Loads and ties. He has a sweet and respectful demeanor, but can be hot. Feet trimmed every four weeks, he is sound, no vices, his teeth were done in 2014 and is UTD on coggins.
King has an excellent bloodline going back to Native Dancer and Secretariat. He earned $174k in his racing career of 12 races where he won 5 of those. He was owned by Hollywood Star, David Cassidy, and at one point was in contention for Horse of the Year. David Cassidy turned down a $750,000 offer for Mayan King as he believed Mayan King was "the best horse he ever owned" and believed he would be "his punch ticket to the Kentucky Derby." From what I could gather in my online research, it appears Mayan King pulled a back muscle and his race career ended soon after.
