Cute Pony Gelding
Calypso is an adorable 14.1 hand, bay gelding who was rescued from Camelot Auction's feedlot pen in late June 2012. He has been through quarantine, and is healthy and has a beautiful coat and thick mane and tail. He is UTD on shots, teeth, and farrier, sound, and ready to find a forever home. We don't know what breed Calypso is. He could possibly be a Hackney or Hackney cross. The auction believed he was an Arab cross. He is in his late teens. But do not let his age fool you!!! He is spunky, VERY friendly, has good ground manners, cross ties, clips, loads on trailer, and loves to be hugged and kissed. He is without shoes and is a fairly easy keeper. Calypso walks and trots nicely, however, his quarantine period and other time constraints have limited the time we have had to ride him. We have spent some time working on ground driving, and he appears to know this job well. He drives at the walk and trot and over ground poles. We do not have a cart, but we are speculating that he has been used to pull a cart, or could easily be taught to do so because he long reins so beautifully. He is not spooky at all. Nothing seems to scare or bother him (walks over/under tarps, has been in the woods). He has a very "been there, done that" attitude. We believe he is suitable for an intermediate rider- small adult or teen. We'd prefer for him to find a home where he will be used for flatwork/pleasure riding and/or cart pulling, just because of his age. Calypso gets along well with other horses but tends to be on the more dominant end of the spectrum. He is very attached to the other pony that we rescued (Trooper) , and ideally, we'd like to find them a home together. If going together, we'd be somewhat negotiable with price. Since he is a rescue, we will be asking for vet/farrier references and prefer to find him a home nearby that we can check out first. If interested in Calypso, you must be willing to sign an anti-slaughter/ no auction clause and first right of refusal agreement. We want him to find a home where he will be loved for his whole life. We are asking $1000 for Calypso, which partially covers his auction fee, and vet, farrier, & dentist fees. We would also be willing to consider an on-farm lease. If interested in adopting or coming to meet Calypso, please contact Peggy at 732-513-1654.
