Frequently asked questions
What is a Connemara?
The Connemara Horse is a breed of pony native to Ireland. These compact, hardy and sure-footed animals have been used for centuries throughout Ireland as a working horse, primarily for pulling carts, carrying heavy loads and even occasionally serving as mounts in battle. They have also been used in competitive sports such as show jumping, eventing and driving competitions. Connemara Horses come in many variations of color including chestnuts with white markings, gray with black points and duns of many shades; they range from 13.2hh - 15.2hh (hands high) tall at the withers. They are known for their intelligence, loyalty and strong work ethic which has earned them an excellent reputation among horse owners everywhere! Their physical characteristics include heavy feathering on their legs that can reach mid-cannon level (the part between fetlock & knee or hock); long manes that hang past the neckline; well-muscled hindquarters; sloping shoulders & deep chests; wide forehead & straight profile; short back & large quarters; short head & thick neck set low on the withers. All these features contribute to the unique look that Connemara horses are known for! Connemara horses are highly sought after by equestrians looking for a dependable mount who will thrive under rigorous training regimes without breaking down physically or mentally – if you’re looking for your next competition partner there’s no better choice than a Connemara!
