Chico's a sweet ol' 25-ish, 14H-ish sorrel pinto gelding that originally came into AAE in February 2010, and he was later adopted to a young girl. Unfortunate circumstances brought him back to AAE. Chico's been described as a beginner to intermediate ride. He's probably best for a beginner rider with supervision in controlled conditions or an intermediate rider on trail. His former owner (pre-AAE) indicated he was a pony club pony for years, good in the ring, and had tons of trail hours. He is good on trail, but needs a confident rider when out of the arena. He knows good ground manners, but has to be reminded to use them....he will test the limits of his handler in a mischievious way. Chico's also pushy over food. If not reminded to wait until his food is ready, he’ll help himself.

AAE’s equine dentist technician provided much needed dental care for Chico when he originally arrived. His teeth were in very poor condition, and seven were removed. As a result, he requires a pellet diet with no hay. It also appears Chico has developed Cushing’s disease, and he's been started on daily oral medication (pergolide) to manage his condition. He's been on a grass pellet diet

Chico is a smart ol’ guy, been around the block a few times…and then some. He’s got a ton of energy and needs a job, but he also needs strong leadership. He can be ridden by a beginner rider, but should be on lead line or in an arena. He’s pushy with his head and will push an unwitting handler around, but gotta love this ol' boy!
