Rags to Riches barn name: "Cowboy" is roughly a 20 year old buckskin Quarter Horse gelding. I have owned him since 2005. We have never been sure of his age but based on his teeth and Veterinarian guesstimate, we estimate around 20 years. I used Cowboy for eventing/jumping when I first bought him in 2005. After a few years I decided to try him in english pleasure where he really excelled, by far the best thing he has ever done. I showed him for quite a few years in the Eastern Rowan Saddle Club circuit winning many year-end awards including Reserve Pleasure Champion and Grand Champion a few years straight. Since his show career has ended I have used Cowboy for riding lessons. He is a fantastic horse but gets annoyed with small children (mainly loud children). Cowboy needs a rider that will not let him get away with things. I loved using him as a lesson horse because he would make the rider so much better. A strong minded beginner would have so much fun with this horse. It hurts me to sell him as he has been my horse for 10 years. He has tried his best to do everything that I have ever asked of him. He loves to swim and I used to swim him for exerciser back in his showing days. I love him dearly and will only let him go to the best home possible. I have began training event horses (specifically OTTB's) and found that it's my niche in the horse world. If I want to continue to do this, I need to be realistic and slim down only to competition horses. Cowboy has more than earned his retirement and I would love to find someone that can trail ride, lightly show and enjoy him. He has a bit of a fire to his personality that I love it about him. He is not very spunky anymore but does have a stubborn streak which is why he needs an unafraid rider. If you treat him with respect, he will try to do anything you ask of him. He has never done me wrong and to this day I am his favorite person. I am hoping to find someone that not only loves Cowboy, but that Cowboy loves as well.
Cowboy has been on a long term lease since May. He will be coming off the lease agreement starting the end of August. He was trail ridden all over central NC. He is truly an amazing horse and I will not see him go to a home that I do not approve of. I will ask for a Veterinarian recommendation before he goes home with anyone. I feel that I owe him the very best home as he gave me his all for the past 10 years. Feel free to call/email and we can set up a day/time for you to come out and meet Cowboy.
