Charm is coming 13 on Cinco de mayo. He is no longer a stallion as shown on his papers although he did sire a couple of really good colts. We started him out early with halter and lead, picking up his feet and loading then on to saddle. He's been my riding horse since then but now that we're all older and getting shorter horses, he towers over my riding partners. We never ride as often as we would like and he's always had this little stubborn spark that tries to come out on occasion. Like the way HE wants to load. Some days he just hops right in and other times he looks at you like uuhh no. I usually tell him he doesn't want to make a big deal out of a simple thing, give he a little time and then load up. Sometimes he likes to be the leader on the trail and sometimes he wants to be the caboose. Maybe because of his size he thinks he's the man in charge of our other geldings (@ pasture) but not usually mares. He does have a pretty good buck when that spark flares up but probably just needs more work that we give him. At 53 it's getting harder to ride him out with that fat barrel he's got and Lord knows what I'd break if I hit the ground from his height. My husband has some hip problems so he got a shorter horse and so I've started riding his other short horse. He's probably 1100 pounds (a real easy keeper, the pics are 1st of Feb & nothing but hay). He's big and stout and could be used for a variety of interest with the right training. We've had some people want him just never show up to get him so I decided to look for more serious interest.
